Nancy Carson – Founder and CEO

Nancy has an extensive background in entrepreneurship, business development, business strategy, sales, education, digital communication and social media. As a former winner of many national sales awards, she is particularly looking forward to building out the sales and marketing part of the company as well as opening up distribution channels for Balcony Pets.  She is passionate about the value and comfort that pets provide for their human companions.  Her need to solve a problem she was personally experiencing combined with her understanding of people and the care of pets led her to create a product that fills a previously unmet need in the pet market.

Steve Stout – Chief Operating Officer

With over 25 years of experience in high-tech product design, development, deployment and sustaining support, Steve brings expertise in new product introduction, manufacturing process, tooling, assembly, quality control, and production scaling methodology. He is a strong operational leader with experience managing senior engineering leadership teams. He has managed large budgets and optimized engineering cost structures. He has worked with all phases of product delivery, from concept to maturity. Steve has worked closely with manufacturing and supply organizations, outsourced support functions, and coordinated internal organizations to ensure the product representation to the customer. Steve’s skills and experience make him a valuable member of our Balcony Pets team.

Marc Urbach – CFO

Marc Urbach has twenty years of accounting, finance, and operations experience in both large and small companies. Marc most recently served as President/CFO of YOU On Demand Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: YOD), an international media conglomerate. He also formerly served as a member of the YOU On Demand Board of Directors. He has had a successful career as founder/CFO of many companies, helping to establish infrastructure, assisting with strategic planning and raising capital utilizing various funding vehicles. He previously was the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Profile Home Inc., a privately held importer and distributor of home furnishings. He additionally served on the Board and was part owner of Tri-state Trading LLC. Mr. Urbach was a Director of Finance at Mercer Inc., a Marsh & McLennan Company. He was a Finance Manager at Small World Media and held a similar position at The Walt Disney Company. Mr. Urbach started his career at Arthur Andersen LLP as a senior auditor and received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Babson College.

Nick Stout – Consulting Design Engineer

Nick is a recent graduate of Engineering Design and Drafting technology.  He has advanced training in Advanced AutoCAD, Manufacturing Process, Statics and Strengths of Material, Geometric Dimension and Tolerance.  Nick is experienced with CNC implementation and CAD file structure conversions.  Nick is a devoted husband, father, and pet owner.

Laura McCann Ramsey – Strategic Advisor

Well rounded senior executive with a proven record of success in Fashion and Technology. Lead and have led global business strategy and delivery including software implementation and integration, software product management, web and enterprise application development, marketing and product development. 20+ years of experience in high tech, fashion, consumer products, design, sourcing and marketing.

Priya James – Video, Photography and Social Meda Support

Priya is an independent video marketing and social media consultant. She makes compelling videos that tell a story. Priya’s specialty is working at the intersection of video messaging and social media. In the last two years, she has made or edited over 200 videos for social media, most received over a million views. She believes that every person, every product, every cause has a good story behind it and how that story is told makes a huge difference.

Claire Kalia – Attorney, Kalia Law P.C.


Claire Kalia advises startups and small businesses on their legal issues including formation, employment law, restructuring, equity arrangements, tax, benefit plans, trademarks and contracts.  Claire Kalia graduated from UCLA Law School in 2008 and worked at a top international law firm in Silicon Valley, where she advised some of the Valley’s most successful and well-known companies.  Claire founded Kalia Law P.C. to help meet the need of startups and small business owners for quality legal services at a rate they can afford. She brings her large law firm experience and expertise to her practice so that she can make quality legal services accessible to startups and small business owners.

Julie Chandler – Marketing and PR Coordinator

Julie has a background in social work, community healthcare, pet health, and medical services industry marketing including event promotion.
She will organize and represent Balcony Pets at conventions and community events nationwide. She is a consummate organizer and problem solver, possessing great communication skills and the determination to see a job well done.

Jocelyn Canty – Foundation and Education Outreach Coordinator

Jocelyn is a pet lover who owns two chinchillas, a leopard gecko, a fish and two family schnauzers. She works at a small pet store that specializes in high quality dog and cat food. She has hosted animal-oriented birthday parties to teach children about animals. Jocelyn also supports a horse sanctuary in Santa Cruz called the Pregnant Mare Organization. She is currently studying Graphic Design at De Anza Community College in San Jose, California.

Gina Dial

Vice President of Sales and Marketing at John Paul Pet. Gina has been in the pet business a long time and is very well connected. Gina has been extremely helpful for us, introducing us to many people in the pet industry.  Her experience and sensitivity to the growth and development of new products in the pet industry, as well as her expertise in marketing strategy, has been invaluable.

Joe Pomerantz – Pet Industry Advisor

Joe Pomerantz is the Founder and CEO of ADVANTEK MARKETING. ADVANTEK is a designer and manufacturer of animal containment systems. Joe began his career in the early 1970’s in the hardware industry while studying Business Administration at California State University in Northridge, CA (CSUN).

He spent 28 years in the hand tool/hardware industry before founding ADVANTEK in 2004, as a hand tool manufacturer. A love of animals and a strong concern for animal safety quickly lead to a major shift in ADVANTEK’s product offerings.
Joe spends a good deal of time in the product development arena and makes numerous visits to a wide variety of factories every year.

With new innovations on a regular basis, ADVANTEK has enjoyed double digit growth every year in its 12 year history. Balcony Pets is very pleased to have his valuable expertise on board.

Herbert (Teddy) Patty, Esq. – Patent and Trademark Attorney

Maggie Chen, CPA – Accountant

Maggie Chen is a career practitioner with experience in public accounting, specializing in taxation & accounting services. She began her career in the private industry sector which helped her gain many insights into business operations. Prior to starting her own practice, Maggie was a partner at a local CPA firm and a tax accountant at a premium regional CPA firm providing a wide variety of services to privately held business and its owner. Her strong analytical and problem-solving skills have enabled her to recognize key issues quickly and to assist client in a timely manner.

Maggie Chen received her master’s degree in Taxation and Economics.
